Marine bacteria harbor the sulfonamide resistance gene sul4 without mobile genetic elements

چکیده
Marine bacteria are possible reservoirs of antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) originating not only from clinical and terrestrial hot spots but also the marine environment. We report here for first time a higher rate sulfonamide-resistance gene sul4 in bacterial isolates compared with other sul genes. Among four ( sul1 , sul2 sul3 ), was most abundant (45%) 74 sulfonamide-resistant by PCR screening. The order abundance (33 isolates) >sul2 (6 >sul3 (5 >sul1 (1 isolate). Whole-genome sequencing 23 -expressing α- γ-proteobacteria bacilli revealed that accompanied known mobile genetic elements. This suggests these is clonally transferred horizontally transferable. Folate metabolism formed cluster suggesting area plays role folate metabolism, at which functions as dihydropteroate synthase. Thus, might be expressed species function synthesis, it transferable ARG.

Discovery of the fourth mobile sulfonamide resistance gene
BACKGROUND Over the past 75 years, human pathogens have acquired antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), often from environmental bacteria. Integrons play a major role in the acquisition of antibiotic resistance genes. We therefore hypothesized that focused exploration of integron gene cassettes from microbial communities could be an efficient way to find novel mobile resistance genes. DNA from pol...

متن کاملContribution of mobile genetic elements on variation in gene content among bacteria
Bacterial genomes vary widely in gene content [1]. This variation can be the result of different evolutionary events including gene loss, gene duplication, and horizontal gene transfer [2]. Mobile genetic elements such as plasmids and viruses are major vehicles to transfer genes between different cells, and thus play a key role in the evolution and diversification of bacteria [3]. To understand...
متن کاملComposite mobile genetic elements disseminating macrolide resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae
Macrolide resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae emerged in the U.S. and globally during the early 1990's. The RNA methylase encoded by erm(B) and the macrolide efflux genes mef(E) and mel were identified as the resistance determining factors. These genes are disseminated in the pneumococcus on mobile, often chimeric elements consisting of multiple smaller elements. To better understand the var...
